Setting up district programs

All programs must be defined at the district and assigned to schools. PowerSchool SMS includes several predefined program categories for some of the more common US programs, many of which are federally authorized, funded, and audited. When setting up programs, you may use predefined programs provided with PowerSchool SMS, copy predefined programs and alter them to meet your needs, or create new programs.

Before you begin setting up programs, determine your district's program needs. Consider the following questions:

= What programs will be offered in your district?
= Which school or facilities will offer specific programs?
= Do you want to restrict the enrollment in certain schools to students who are accepted into specific programs?
= Will some schools provide transportation to students enrolled in programs at the school?
= Do you want PowerSchool SMS to consider a student program enrollment when loading student schedules or assigning students to homerooms? (Use class and homeroom constraints to do this.)

To set up programs at the district, complete the following overall procedure:

1 Define district preferences for program management. See Setting Program Management district preferences [>>].
2 Define Program Management Setup Lists. See Working with Program Management Setup Lists [>>].
3 Set up off-campus facilities (if required). For more information, see Setting up off-campus facilities [>>].
4 Create programs and assign them to schools. See Program setup [>>].
5 Set up transportation programs (if required). See Setting up Transportation Programs [>>].
6 Create class and homeroom constraints for program classes and assign them to homerooms and courses (optional). See Setting up classes for programs at the district or school [>>].
