One PowerSchool SMS system serves a school district. A typical school district has many schools. Each school in the system can have a unique setup; however many aspects of a school’s setup are derived from options set at the district level [>>]; for example, grade levels, district calendar, course catalog, and so on. Thus, district setup precedes a school setup.
Typically, a District Administrator determines the initial setup of a school. Starting from this initial setup, a School Administrator is able to adjust his or her school’s setup to best serve its needs.
Setting up a school involves (in the preferred order):
| = | School calendar setup [>>] |
| = | Scheduling [>>] |
| = | Attendance setup [>>] |
| = | Grade level setup [>>] |
| = | Facility setup [>>] |
| = | Grading setup [>>] |
School setup may also involve the following:
| = | Awards setup [>>] |
| = | School staff [>>] |
| = | Program Management: Refer to the PowerSchool SMSProgram Management Guide Program Management Guide. |
| = | Importing and exporting data: Refer to the PowerSchool SMSImport/Export Guide. |
| = | Customizing system pages [>>]. |
To set up a school, a user must be assigned a role as a School Administrator and have a staff record assigned to the school [see User setup >>].
