Online contact update requests setup

Using PowerSchool's parent/student web site, ParentCONNECTxpTM, a student's contact can update contact information in ParentCONNECTxp and then submit an update request to PowerSchool SMS for approval [>>].

Notes:

A public key certificate (also known as a digital certificate or identity certificate) is required for internal message encryption for the online contact editing web service. For detailed instructions on obtaining and installing a public key certificate, see the ParentCONNECTxp Installation and Setup Guide.

For those districts that want to use HTTPS, a single self-signed certificate is required for HTTPS communications with PowerSchool SMS. Because the default web.config file in PowerSchool SMS is configured to support HTTP, you will need to configure the web.config file for HTTPS. For further information, see the ParentCONNECTxp Installation and Setup Guide.

Selecting an indicator on the contact's record

Selecting the online contact editing indicator for a contact in PowerSchool SMS enables that contact to make changes to contact information in ParentCONNECTxp. Then, to enable a School Administrator using PowerSchool SMS to approve or reject the online update requests submitted by the ParentCONNECTxp user, the District Administrator must apply the Online Contact Update Request Approval permission [Table 17] to the School Administrator's role [see Role permissions >>].

To select the online contact editing indicator:You can do this if your role is School Administrator or District Administrator. [SA,DA]

Locate and view the student's record [>>].

In the control bar, click Contacts. The Contact List page appears.

Click the contact's name. The Edit Contact page appears.

Under Relationship Information, in the Indicators list, click Online contact editing.

Click the right arrow to move the indicator to the selected list [Figure 61]. Note:ParentCONNECTxp users who do not have this indicator selected can view contact information for their assigned students but cannot make changes to the information.

Click OK.

Setting preferences to control access to addresses in ParentCONNECTxp

You can set preferences in the PowerSchool SMS Active Calendar to control whether parents or guardians can add, edit, or view contact home and employment addresses in ParentCONNECTxp. By default, these preferences are all set to allow ParentCONNECTxp users to edit home and employment addresses. Note: The Online contact editing indicator must be set for the ParentCONNECTxp user [Figure 61].

To set Online Contact Editing Preferences:You can do this if your role is District Administrator.[DA]

In the Admin menu, click District Setup. The District Setup page appears.

Under Preferences, click Online Contact Editing Preferences. The Online Contact Editing Preferences page appears.

View or edit the following information, which includes:

Allow users to enter contact home address information: When this option is selected, parents and guardians who are adding new contacts to ParentCONNECTxp can enter home address information. When this option is not selected, the Address panel is not visible to the ParentCONNECTxp user.

Allow users to enter contact employment address information: When this option is selected, parents and guardians who are adding new contacts to ParentCONNECTxp can enter their employment address information. When this option is not selected, the Employment panel is not visible to the ParentCONNECTxp user.

Home address: - Options are:

Allow user to modify: The ParentCONNECTxp user can edit their existing home address.

Show for viewing only: The ParentCONNECTxp user can view their home address but cannot edit it.

Hide: The Address panel is not visible to the ParentCONNECTxp user.

Employment address: - Options are:

Allow user to modify: The ParentCONNECTxp user can edit their existing employment address.

Show for viewing only: The ParentCONNECTxp user can view their employment address but cannot edit it.

Hide: The Employment panel is not visible to the ParentCONNECTxp user.

Click OK.
