Queues provide wait lists for programs and can also be used to control program capacity.
When you create a program session, PowerSchool SMS automatically creates a queue for students applying to the program. You can leave the criteria open to allow an unlimited number of students to be offered positions in the program or you can set a capacity limit. You can also create multiple queues for a single program to allow different capacities for different criteria. For example, you could have a General queue that has a capacity of fifty, as well as a sibling queue with a capacity of ten. You can also define how students are prioritized in the queue. They can be ranked sequentially in the order their applications were entered or randomly to create a lottery enrollment.
When students apply to a program, they are placed in a queue. If there are no eligibility criteria or capacity limits defined for the queue, the student's status is automatically set to "offered" and you only need to calculate their program eligibility before assigning them to the program.
If the queue has eligibility criteria or capacity limits, you must calculate ranks and queue status before you can offer students positions in the program.
