Preparing the Database Server

Before installing SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012, prepare your Database Server.

To prepare the Database Server:

Stop any third-party tools installed on the server.

Disconnect all users from the server.

Uninstall your current version of SQL Server.

If you currently use SQL Server 2005 and are upgrading to SQL Server 2008, if a "Setting Internal Properties" error occurs [Figure 426], go to Microsoft support, knowledgebase number 919945 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919945).

Restart the server.
