Installing critical operating system updates

On the server, install all critical updates, patches, service packs, and hot fixes available from Microsoft for the Windows operating system in use. For example, ensure that Windows Server 2008 is installed on the Database Server and Web Servers.

To install critical updates on a server:

On the server, open a web browser.

Go to the URL: http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate.

Follow the on-screen instructions to scan for and install critical updates.
